Queen Victoria Building
The Queen Victoria Building (abbreviated as QVB) is an architecture built in the late nineteenth century and designed by architect George McRae, located at 429-481 George Street in Sydney’s Central Business District, in the Australian state of New South Wales. The Romanes Revival building was built between 1893 and 1898 and is 30 meters (98 feet) wide by 190 meters (620 feet) long. The domes were built by Richie Brothers, a steel and metal company that built trains, trams and farm equipment. The building fills an urban block surrounded by George, Market, York and Trudeau Street. Designed as a market, it was used for a variety of purposes, underwent redesign and underwent disintegration until its restoration returned to its original use in the late twentieth century. The property is owned by the City of Sydney and was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on March 5, 2010.
