Taj Gibson Commits to Non-Guaranteed Contract with Knicks Through Remainder of Season

Taj Gibson and coach Tom Thibodeau share their fourth NBA reunion.

Gibson has inked a free agent agreement with the New York Knicks, entering the team on a non-guaranteed contract for the remainder of the season, according to Mark Bartelstein of Priority Sports, his representative, as conveyed to ESPN on Wednesday.

At 38, Gibson comes aboard the Knicks after starting center Mitchell Robinson underwent left ankle surgery, potentially sidelining him for two to three months. Gibson’s extensive history with Thibodeau includes stints with the Chicago Bulls, Minnesota Timberwolves, and now a return with the Knicks. Following a season with Washington in 2022-23, Gibson spent three years with New York.

Currently, the Knicks hold a 13-9 record, securing the sixth spot in the Eastern Conference.

Thibodeau has consistently praised Gibson for his toughness and professionalism. Now in his 15th season, Gibson boasts career averages of 8.7 points and 5.9 rebounds.

In order to accommodate Gibson on the roster, the Knicks have waived guard Dylan Windler.
