Mount Everest is the highest mountain in the world

However, its identity was not recognized as the highest point on the Earth’s surface, however, until 1852, the Government of India survey confirmed that fact. In 1865, the mountain, formerly known as Peak XV, was renamed Sir George Everest, the British Surveyor General of India from 1830 to 1843.
